What causes a light switch to stop working but light stays on?

A light that stays on when you flip the switch usually points to a failed switch or a miswired circuit that leaves the fixture on a constant hot. It can also be a 3‑way switch wired incorrectly, a stuck smart-switch relay, or a loose backstabbed connection. We repair and replace switches and safety devices, including GFCI/AFCI, and offer a $29 Whole Home Electrical Safety Inspection. Service available across Warrenton, Fredericksburg, and nearby communities.

Quick checks:

  • Try the other 3‑way switch location.
  • Cycle the breaker once.
  • Replace a known-faulty smart switch.
