What should I do if my water heater is leaking from the top?

Shut off power or gas, then close the cold-water valve on top of the heater. Dry the top and watch where water returns; common sources are the cold/hot supply lines, the shutoff valve, the anode rod port, or dielectric nipples. Hand‑snug any visibly loose fitting only. Do not overtighten, and do not remove corroded parts yourself. Appleton Campbell repairs and replaces all leading water heater brands and models, including tankless. We serve homes in Warrenton, Fredericksburg, and Ashburn.
