Why Does My GFCI Outlet Keep Tripping Randomly Without Load?

A GFCI that trips with “no load” is usually sensing a small ground fault on the circuit. Likely causes include moisture intrusion, a downstream device with leakage, reversed LINE/LOAD wiring, a loose connection, or a failing GFCI. We install, inspect, and repair GFCIs, and our electrical inspections include checking all accessible receptacles.

Quick checks:

  • Unplug everything downstream, then test/reset.
  • Dry exterior/bath/kitchen receptacles.
  • Inspect for loose wires or shared neutrals.
  • Replace the GFCI if it won’t hold reset.
